Some campgrounds give you a place to park. Wanee Lake gives you a rhythm. From late spring through early fall, our summer Saturdays in Ashburn, GA fall into a familiar pattern: a morning tee time, lunch at the Fire Ant Café, an afternoon by the pool, and the 6pm billiards tournament in the clubhouse. Guests who book a weekend with us tend to use all of it.

Here’s what that day actually looks like on property right now.

Morning: 9 Holes Before the Heat

Our 9-hole course is open to the public and walkable for guests staying on site. A twosome can finish in about 90 minutes; a foursome typically wraps in two to two and a half hours. That’s by design. The USGA built its PLAY9 program around the idea that nine holes fits real schedules: kids, dogs, day jobs, June heat in South Georgia.

In June, July, and August we recommend a tee time before 11am. The National Weather Service flags high heat and humidity as a serious summer concern across our part of Georgia, and the first few hours after sunrise are noticeably more comfortable than mid-afternoon. Drink water. There’s water, soft drinks, beer and cocktails at the clubhouse to stock up before you head out.

Mid-Day: Pool, Dog Run, and a Stop at the Fire Ant Café

The Fire Ant Café is open Saturdays and Sundays only. The current menu is short on purpose: highlighted by hot dogs, chicken fingers, fries and mozzarella sticks. It’s the kind of food that works after nine holes and before a swim. Order at the counter, grab a table in the air conditioning, and don’t rush.

The pool is a few steps from the café. So is the dog run, which gives the dogs some space to stretch while you settle in. Tennis and pickleball courts, cornhole, and horseshoes are all set up nearby if your group splits up, because somebody always wants a second activity before the afternoon settles in.

Late Afternoon: The Saturday Slowdown

Most of our weekend guests use the hours between 2 and 5pm to actually rest. That’s the part of camping that gets overlooked. A folding chair, the shade of the pines, a book or a nap. South Georgia humidity rewards you for not fighting it.

If you’re new to the property, this is also a good window to walk the campground loop and figure out where the bathhouses, ice, and trash dumpsters are. Newcomers tend to map the place on Sunday morning when they should have done it Saturday afternoon.

6pm: Billiards in the Clubhouse

Every Saturday at 6pm the clubhouse hosts a billiards tournament. It’s casual. It’s fun. We’ve had RV regulars who plan their stay around it, and first-time campers who walk in not knowing it was happening. Both end up at the same table.

The clubhouse bar is open during the tournament, and the room has space to watch if you’d rather not play. It’s the closest thing Wanee Lake has to a weekly tradition, and most weekends it’s the part guests talk about when they leave a review.

Sunday Morning

The café opens again. The course opens again. Most guests check out by 11am unless they’ve extended for a longer stay. Long-term sites are available if a weekend turns into a season, and plenty of our regulars have done exactly that.

A few things to know before you come:

• The clubhouse and golf course are closed Mondays except holidays
• Pets are welcome on a leash; the dog run is open dawn to dusk
• Quiet hours run from 10pm to 8am
