Memorial Day weekend at Cedar Creek looked exactly like we hoped it would. Kids in life jackets, dads in flip-flops, kayaks lined up at the put-in, and a steady stream of bagged ice walking out of the camp store. If you missed it, do not worry. The water is still here, the creek is still running clean, and there is a site with your name on it for any weekend the rest of the summer. Check overnight availability when you finish reading. What the Weekend Looked Like

Over four days, 35 paddlers floated Big Cedar Creek with us. About half rented one of our sit-on-top kayaks and let our shuttle drop them upstream. The other half brought their own boats and just grabbed a ride. The 1pm shuttle on Saturday was the most popular run of the weekend, with families and small groups stretching out on the slow, shaded water below the put-in.

Back at the camp store, the runaway bestseller was bagged ice (18 bags in three days, and yes, we sold out twice and re-iced). Worms came in second, which tells you something about how good the fishing has been off the bank. A few guests landed bream and the occasional small bass without ever leaving the property.

What Big Cedar Creek Feels Like Right Now

The creek is running clear, cool, and easy. The put-in stretch closest to the property is the kind of water you can hand to a first-time paddler without worrying. There are shaded banks, almost no motor traffic, and enough wildlife on the edges that even the kids end up looking up from their phones.

What to Bring (and What’s Waiting for You Here)

Pack light. We have most of what you would forget:

• Standard and deluxe sit-on-top kayaks at the creek bank, with kid-sized and adult life jackets fitted on-site. Georgia law requires children under 13 to wear a PFD at all times on a moving boat, and the Georgia DNR boating page has the full set of rules if you want to read up before you arrive.
• Tubes for the calmer water below the property if floating is more your speed than paddling.
• A camp store stocked with ice, bait, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, propane, firewood, and the Cedar Creek sticker your dashboard is missing.

Three Reasons to Make a Weekend of It

1. The town of Cave Spring is its own afternoon.

Ten minutes from the campground, you have a walkable downtown square built around a real natural cave and spring (it is where the town got its name). Antique shops, a community pool fed by the spring, and a slow-paced Southern square that is hard not to enjoy.

2. Rome and the Silver Comet are an easy day trip.

Rome, Georgia is about 20 minutes east. The Silver Comet Trail stretches 61 miles of paved, off-road riding through Northwest Georgia and is reachable on a day trip from the property. If you have got cyclists in the group, this is the move.

3. The mornings on the creek are the best part.

The early light on Big Cedar is the kind of thing people drive hours to see. The wildlife is up, the heat has not built yet, and the put-in is yours. If you are staying with us, the creek is a short walk from every RV pad, tent site and from the Bird’s Nest Lodge.
