- Reservations made for someone who does not meet the minimum requirements to participate will result in no refund.
Weather & River Conditions
- Tubing is a weather-dependent activity. Wilderness Cove reserves the right to delay or cancel trips due to unsafe weather or river conditions.
- Hurricane Helene has significantly altered the Green River, and conditions may differ from past years. Rocks, rapids, submerged debris, and stronger currents may be present. Participants accept these risks.
- If Wilderness Cove cancels a tubing trip due to weather or river conditions, you will be offered a full refund or the option to reschedule.
Tubing Rules
- Children MUST be 48” or taller and ages 10 or older to tube. No ‐ they cannot ride on their parent’s lap if they are under 48”, they cannot bring their own tube/raft/float if under 48”. If you would like to discuss bringing your child under 10 years old, please contact us before your visit at (828) 341-2344 or info@wildernesscovecampground.com.
- No alcohol is allowed on the river or within 100 feet of the banks. This is an enforced NC State law for Polk County (est 2006). There is a $250+ fine for everyone in the party that has evidence of alcohol. Coolers and bottles are subject to random checks.
- This is NOT a lazy river. There are Class I, II & III rapids on every float: swift water pushing through rocks that can get over an adult’s head in some places. There is always a chance of flipping out of the tube. Be aware of your surroundings and only exit your tube in the event of an emergency.
- Do NOT tie your tube to someone else’s tube as it may increase the risk of injury. Stay close to your group while on the river so you are never alone. If your tube pops, gets lost, or you wish to stop, exit the river as safely as possible.
- Life jackets are highly recommended for all tubers and should be worn appropriately at all times. Anyone age 16 or under MUST wear a life jacket. These are included in the price and everyone is welcome to one.
- You cannot bring your own tube. This is a safety precaution as there are material differences and our drivers may not be able to recognize you on the river.
- Shuttles: We no longer offer personal shuttle-only services for tubers bringing their own tubes… they simply do not make it through the float without popping. Anyone not using our tubing services or not camping with us are not allowed to park at Wilderness Cove or use our facilities or shuttles. There are public access areas along the river for anyone wanting to do their own thing. Group kayak shuttles may be available on weekdays, please inquire in advance to schedule.
- Service Animals: For the safety of your service animal and fellow tubers, service animals are not permitted on the tubing float. The Green River contains Class I–III whitewater rapids, post-hurricane debris, and unpredictable water conditions that pose a direct safety risk to animals in or near the water. Service animals are welcome throughout the Wilderness Cove campground and along the riverbank. If you have questions, please contact us before your visit at (828) 341-2344 or info@wildernesscovecampground.com.
- Float times are approximate and vary based on a multitude of factors. We do not control the Green River or mother nature.
- Failure to return water shoe rentals will incur a $15 fee plus tax and failure to return a paddle or life jacket will incur a $20 fee plus tax.
- Stay safe and HAVE FUN!
Wilderness Cove Tubing FAQ
Updated: April 2026
Is Wilderness Cove offering tubing this summer?
Yes! Tubing is back for 2026. We’re aiming to get fully back to pre-Hurricane Helene capabilities, but we’re continuing our progress and building on what we did in 2025. Tubing reservations are highly recommended for 2026. Take advantage of our lowest rates by booking online in advance of your float date. Walk-ins are welcome subject to availability.
When does Tubing Season start and end?
2026 Tubing Season runs from Friday, May 22nd through Sunday, September 13. Floats are currently offered every Thursday – Sunday. We will also be open on Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Do you have guided floats?
Going back to the way it used to be, all floats are once again self-guided. Our staff is happy to assist and answer any questions you have, but they will not be floating the river alongside you. We offered guided floats in 2025 because the changes to the Green River post-Hurricane Helene were so new to everyone. Now that the Green River has been cleaned up, we are confident you’ll be able to safely navigate it without a guide.
How do I make a tubing reservation?
Scroll up to choose your tube and book online or give us a call at (828) 341-2344 during business hours and we’ll be happy to assist you.
Are Walk-Ins Welcome?
Yes! We are happy to accept walk-ins this year subject to availability. We highly recommend booking your float reservation online in advance to take advantage of our lowest rates and ensure availability!
What float options are available?
We are currently offering only the float that begins at Wilderness Cove and ends at Big Rock. The float will take ~3 hours in a mini cat and ~2.5 hours in a kayak. We will shuttle you back to Wilderness Cove after your float.
What equipment is available?
We offer two float options:
• Mini Cats
• Inflatable Kayaks
All tube options include a life jacket and a paddle.
Are water shoes required?
Yes. Closed-toe water shoes or sandals with secure heel straps are required. You may bring your own, or you can rent or purchase them from us at check-in.
Do I have to complete a waiver?
Yes. Every participant must complete a waiver before tubing.
Is the river safe after the hurricane?
Yes, but conditions have changed. The Green River is now a naturally flowing river (no longer regulated by the Tuxedo Hydro Station, which was destroyed). The riverbed is wider, the water is clearer, and the scenery has changed with more sandy beaches and open views. Extensive cleanup efforts were conducted by FEMA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and MountainTrue’s Green Riverkeeper program. Heavy equipment removed storm debris, followed by hand crews cleaning up remaining trash and hazards. The river is now in great condition and ready for recreation.
We recommend wearing proper footwear and using caution, as with any river activity.
How was Wilderness Cove affected by Hurricane Helene?
Our tubing operation was severely impacted. Three of our four shuttle buses were destroyed, and we lost nearly all of our tubing inventory. Our campground was closed for months, but thanks to support from the community, state, and FEMA, we’ve been able to reopen.
Can non-campground guests tube?
Yes! Tubing reservations are now available to both campground guests and non-campground guests!
Are lifejackets required?
We will have life jackets available for all tubers. Insurance companies that provide coverage for commercial tubing operations often require life jacket usage based on their safety standards. Life jacket use is strongly encouraged and may be required based on your selected float option or river conditions.
Where do I park and check in?
Check-in is at the camp store at Wilderness Cove: 3772 Green River Cove Rd., Saluda, NC 28773. Enter via Silver Creek Rd. and avoid approaching from the west side of Green River Cove Rd., which is under repair.
What else should I know before arriving?
• Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled float time
• Complete your waiver in advance
• Wear appropriate footwear and bring sunscreen (available for purchase in our store)
• Expect to encounter various wildlife including snakes. Don’t bother them and they won’t bother you!
• Expect a beautiful but slightly changed river environment
